1956 – Richard's Farewell to Saladin

In full regal attire, King Richard Coeur de Lion IV, witnesses the entertainment provided by Saladin, impressing the Sultan and all present with his dignity and handsome appearance. He wears a suit of gold under a velvet mantle of brightest red. The red shines with defiance at any possible defeat King Richard might ever encounter. Three jeweled lions, the coat-of-arms of Richard Coeur de Lion, are embroidered on the center back of his mantle. The mantle flows over his shoulders down to his waist in the front and falls to the floor in back. It is trimmed with deep rows of rhinestones and square-cut sapphires and is caught at the waist with a lavishly-jeweled gold belt. It is edged with ermine and the deep cuffs are also of ermine. Richard wears a cross encrusted with jewels around his neck and carries the royal scepter. He wears gold gloves and gold boots. On his noble head rests a crown sparkling with jewels and Richard wears it with imposing dignity.

Queen Berengaria glitters unsurpassed amid a galaxy of resplendent beauty in a gown of white embroidered brocade sprinkled liberally with rhinestones. The deep-curved neckline extends into off-the-shoulder puffed sleeves banded with ruby and rhinestone-studded braid. The center of the neckline is accentuated by a medallion of teardrop rubies and rhinestones. The long-torso styled waist ends in a hipline band of silver braid sparkling with rubies and rhinestones. The full skirt falls from a girdle to be caught at the hemline by another band of braid set with rubies and rhinestones. The skirt cascades into a short train in back. As an accent note, rhinestone chains are looped around the neck and caught by the ruby medallion centering the bodice of the gown. The puffed sleeves continue into silk tulle strewn with rhinestones and caught at the wrists with wide bracelets of rhinestones. The majestic mantle of white chiffon velvet is elaborately banded with silver braid set with shimmering red stones. Hanging from her shoulders, the mantle bespeaks its importance with and enormous plume design in white quilted satin outlined with glittering silver gems surmounted with precious red stones. The mantle is edged with white fur set with red stones on silver braid. A standup collar encrusted with jewels frame Her Majesty’s face. She wears a dazzling turban of rhinestones gleaming with rubies and boasting a large white plume stemming from the side. She carries a jeweled scepter. Her gloves are of white kid and she wears slippers of white satin.
