1959 – Richard's Boon to Robin Hood

With eight and twenty heralds in velvet and cloth of gold bearing silver trumpets, five score noble knights fully armed and attended by pages clad in rich clothes of silver and velvet, barons and nobles and an array of men-at-arms, King Richard Coeur de Lion enters Sherwood Forest and has Robin hood brought before him. Robin Hood and his merry men rejoice to see their King who has come so royally to visit them. Later when Robin visits the King’s court, he finds his majesty garbed in resplendent robes of white and gold. His tunic of gold striped satin is girded by a jeweled belt. His trousers match his tunic and are caught in boots of gold. His mandarin collar sparkles with dazzling designs wrought in rhinestones. The tunic is inset with a deep V yoke featuring a magnificently embroidered design in gold and rhinestones. The bottom of the tunic is bordered by a band of gold lame ornamented with precious stones, and the sleeves are lined with gold lame. The mantle which falls majestically from Richard’s shoulders to the floor is of white broadtail edged with ermine, gold snake-braid and rhinestone medallions. On the back of the mantle, the Troubadours crest blazes with its semi-precious jewels of green, gold and purple hue. King Richard wears a crown of gold, lined with plush white velvet, and encrusted with precious stones. The crown is a replica of the Imperial State Crown of England, as is the royal scepter of gold. Richard carries a jeweled dagger – another symbol of his eternal stewardship over the Order of the Troubadours.

Our beautiful queen is a vision in silver and white and the admiration she seeks from King Richard is her in full measure. Her regal gown is designed of silver-threaded white satin brocade as Queen Berengaria VII steps from the pages of history to delight and captivate with her grace, beauty and dignity. The bisque waist bodice is moulded with a sweetheart neckline, featuring an inset of silver satin ornately embroidered with glittering diamonds and silver drops. The short puffed sleeves are edged with bands of glittering rhinestones and festooned with rhinestone drops. The satin panel, which flows to the floor is framed by the bouffant brocade skirt caught up in panniers on each side of the front panel by scintillating medallions. Her majestic mantle of white cut velvet is lined with silver and edged with a band of ermine and white satin scrolls. It cascades to the floor from a regal collar of silver lace embroidered with rhinestones. An enormous crest of the royal house rises from the center of the mantle and blazes with semi-precious stones of various hues. The Queen wears a crown of silver set with diamonds and carries a silver and diamond scepter. Both symbols of authority are exact replicas of those used by the Queen of England. Long white kid gloves, white satin slippers, diamond earrings, braids festooned with pearls, and diamond bracelets complement the regal robe.
